On October 11, the Community Foundation of Whistler was pleased to sponsor the Whistler Writers Festival's An Evening of Stories and Songs with Host Grant Lawrence at Maury Young Arts Centre

It was great!

The stories and poetry were engaging, entertaining, and moving. We all enjoyed hearing Dustin Bentall continuing the family talent performance and tradition.

Grant Lawrence (Dirty Windshields: The Best and the Worst of the Smugglers Tour Diaries) hosted a very special evening.  Joining Grant was an all-star cast, including Dave Bidini (Midnight Light: A Personal Journey to the North), the renowned Toronto musician, author, and founding member of the Rheostatics.

Governor General’s Literary Award winner Joel Thomas Hynes (We’ll All Be Burnt in Our Beds Some Night) read a chapter.

Celebrated poet / author / spoken word artist and singer Janet Marie Rogers (As Long as the Sun Shines: Modern Indigenous Voices). Her poetry telling was passionate and thought provoking.  The Mohawk people must be very proud.

An arrival gathering and mid-point reception was an opportunity for our community to connect and celebrate such talent.
