Investing in a Thriving Community

Pemberton Agricultural Parks Master Plan

Pemberton Agricultural Parks Master Plan

Stewardship Pemberton Society (SPS), in partnership with the Village of Pemberton, has created an Agricultural Parks Master Plan. The Plan includes four publicly-owned or tenured parcels of land both in and outside of the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) totaling 27.5 hectares (approximately 67 acres).

The unique parcels within the Agricultural Parks Master Plan will be managed by and for the community for enhanced agricultural production, under the guidance of the Village of Pemberton.

The services of Upland Agricultural Consulting and KSalin Land Planning were retained to assess the parcels for their suitability for community supported agricultural activities

The identified preferred uses for the Pemberton Agricultural Park include a community orchard and large-plot community garden, a Farm to School program for Signal Hill Elementary, the conservation of a functioning wetland and riparian area, and a lease hold agreement with a local farmer for the parcel adjacent to the Pemberton airport.

Providing opportunities for people to engage with the land in a meaningful way, get

their hands dirty, be outside, feed their families, feed each other, feel invested in one

another, to protect pollinators, to be bear smart, without needing to subdivide

farmland or buy mini-acreage, without sprawl, while allowing people the benefits of

living in a compact walkable community in small housing, is a win-win.” Lisa

Richardson, Letter to Mayor and Council.

The Master Plan for the Pemberton Agricultural Parks was adopted by Pemberton Mayor and Council this summer!

Rooted in sound science, the lasting legacy of the Pemberton Agricultural Parks Master Plan will be the creation of unique, sustainable community agriculture parks under one cohesive umbrella. The Plan wasfunded by the Real Estate Foundation of BC (REFBC), the Community Foundation of Whistler (CFOW), and the Village of Pemberton. Organizations and governments wishing to create a similar Agricultural Parks MasterPlan may use this project as a case study and template.
