Jill Ackhurst Social Action FundTell a friendPrint previewBack one page
The Jill Ackhurst Social Action Fund was created in 2004 to honour a leading member of Whistler’s community who died on December 27, 2003 from cancer at the age of 57. Through local and international organizations, Jill Ackhurst dedicated herself to community development. She embodied an intelligent, hands-on approach to resolving social justice issues, especially in the Sea to Sky corridor.

The objective of the fund is to promote an awareness of issues affecting the health of all communities in the Sea to Sky corridor and to seek their solution through effective action.

The Community of Foundation of Whistler is providing financial support through a grant to the North Shore Schizophrenia Society in 2011-2012 for their Suicide Awareness and Prevention program. The North Shore Schizophrenia Society determined that there is a need in Whistler and Pemberton for more support for families and that there is a need for increased awareness of mental illness, available support closer to home, and the importance of early intervention.

Your donation to the Jill Ackhurst Social Action Fund contributes financial support to non-profit organizations like the North Shore Schizophrenia Society who take action to address social issues within a broad demographic range that includes children, youth, seniors and other segments of our society.
